SEMIOLOGY 5)
← Back
The science that deals with the significance given to signs.
From the systemic viewpoint, semiology is closely related to the way our perceptions lead to the construction of networks of interconnected and coherent meanings, in the brain and nervous system.
According to E. BENVENISTE, the semiotic sign is recognized before it can be used. Semiotics thus precedes semantics, which results of an activation of the signs within a language.
