RECONSTRUCTABILITY ANALYSIS (Identification Problem in) 2)
← Back
G. KLIR writes: "… (this problem) is concerned with a given structure system where elements are viewed as subsystems of an unknown crucial system. The aim is to make meaningful inferences about the overall system from information in the subsystems and, possibly, some additional background information"…
"The identification problem belongs to the general class of problems of reasoning under incomplete information. This type of reasoning is fundamentally different from deductive reasoning in the sense that conclusions are not entailed in the given premises: it is often referred as "ampliative reasoning" (1986, p.268).
"In general ampliative inferences are not precise. In the identification problem, one can determine only a class of overall systems that are implied by the information in the given subsystems" (Ibid.).
