The maintenance cost of organizations in terms of needed energy inputs, grows accordingly to their complexity, i.e. to the number of the interconnecting pathways among their components, elements or compartments.
According to H.T. ODUM "… the potentialities for diversity are related to the energy budget in… square functions" (1983, p.216).
Moreover, A. UYEMOV links organization with disorganization: "the origin of disorganization is linked with the growth of organization in another system" (1975, p.95).
If so, useless complexity, i.e. the creation of non-functional links between components, should be avoided (as for example in overburdening bureaucraties, or controls).
