International Encyclopedia of Systems and Cybernetics

2nd Edition, as published by Charles François 2004 Presented by the Bertalanffy Center for the Study of Systems Science Vienna for public access.

About

The International Encyclopedia of Systems and Cybernetics was first edited and published by the system scientist Charles François in 1997. The online version that is provided here was based on the 2nd edition in 2004. It was uploaded and gifted to the center by ASC president Michael Lissack in 2019; the BCSSS purchased the rights for the re-publication of this volume in 200?. In 2018, the original editor expressed his wish to pass on the stewardship over the maintenance and further development of the encyclopedia to the Bertalanffy Center. In the future, the BCSSS seeks to further develop the encyclopedia by open collaboration within the systems sciences. Until the center has found and been able to implement an adequate technical solution for this, the static website is made accessible for the benefit of public scholarship and education.

INTERNATIONAL FEDERATION FOR SYSTEMS RESEARCH (IFSR) 1)

The Federation is the organism which coordinates the action of the international and national systems and cybernetic societies.

It was founded in 1976 by the following societies:

- The American "Society for General Systems Research" (Now "International Society for Systems Science").

- The "Austrian Society for Cybernetics" (Österreichische Studiengesellschaft für Kybernetik, Schottengasse 3, A 1010 Wien – Österreich)

- The "Dutch Systems Group" (Systeem Groep Nederland – University of Amsterdam – Groot Bickerstraat, Amsterdam – Nederland)

The Federation has presently nearly 30 member societies, African, Asian, European, North and South American.

Its seat is in Austria, thanks to the kind help of the Austrian Government. Its Secretariat is at Linz University, presently managed by Prof. Eng. G. CHROUST.

It publishes a quarterly Newsletter, featuring announcements of meetings and conferences, reports on the same, bibliographies, comments and general news.

Its official Journal is "Systems Research" (Ed. M. JACKSON).

It also sponsors the Fuschl meetings.

Its President and other authorities are elected for 3-years terms.

For frequent updates and complementary information (in particular about member societies) please contact Prof. Gerhard Chroust: gc@sea.uni-linz.ac.at, or IFSR web site: http://www.ifsr.org

Prof. Yong Pil Rhee was the next President, succeeded in turn by Prof. Michael Jackson and Prof. Jifa GU.
