The value of the golden proportion (or section) is
It has been considered since Antiquity as reflecting the basic harmonies of nature. A specific angle, the Golden section, i.e. 137°30' corresponds to the Golden proportion.
The so-called and related Golden number is the limit of the series 1/1, 1/2, 2/3, 3/5, 5/8, 8/13, etc., i.e. again:
From the systemic viewpoint it corresponds to the cyclical organization of material structures, as a result of reciprocal influence of fields of forces. It tends to produce helical orderings of elements. It reflects the relation between parts and whole in progressive construction. It also seems related to the fractalization process. It can be encountered in many natural systems. See, for ex. St. DOUADY and Y. COUDER's study on vegetal spirals (1993, p.26-35).
The Russian sociologist A.A. DAVYDOV has researched in the recent years the role of the golden proportion in social systems (1992, p.19-25).
